The Amateur Astronomers Association of Princeton continues its Public Lectures Series on Tuesday, January 14 at 8 p.m. in Peyton Hall at Princeton University with a presentation by Dave Dunham of the International Occultation Timing Association (IOTA). The IOTA is involved in calculating, timing, and observing occultations of stars by planets, especially the minor planets or asteroids. The organization maintains a comprehensive system for tracking asteroids and uses this data collected to study the sizes, shapes and orbital parameters of asteroids. The title of the lecture is The Calculation and Observation of Asteroid Occultations.
